New hair / Hi Mom!

This post is specifically for my Mom, Beverly, all the way out in Chama, NM, who I miss more than I could possibly explain. She wanted to see my new do, and her email gets crabby with attachments, so here is the new hair for the whole world to see (and a handsome picture of my hubby…. we had to go to wedding so we were all dolled up…. well, for us at least)!

Mom is a wonderful artist herself who taught me to craft and express myself creatively for as long as I can remember. We had an old kitchen hutch with the bottom filled to the brim with glitter and glue and goodies. My sister and I were always encouraged to be creative. There was no excuse for boredom in our house! Now when I hear my girls complain how there is nothing to do (and we too, have a shelf full of supplies, not to mention books, games, and toys galore!), I wonder what kind of effect all the video games and tv and media are having on this next generation. We try to really ration the amount of ‘electronic’ time they spend, but it gets hard!

When I was growing up my mother was a weaver, and now she has moved into glass work, mainly fusing glass. I remember setting up booths at art and craft shows with her and the excitement, tension and hard work that I still feel today when I get ready for shows.

Enough nostalgic memories for this morning, but I do need to tell you all, that if you ever find yourself in Chama, NM, be sure to stop by La Zorra Glassworks (in the Chama Station Inn), I’m sure it is the coolest place there and I can’t wait until I can take a trip and see it for myself!
