Holiday Contest!!
November 30th, 2007 3:12 pm by Naomi in Big News, Day to Day at Glitter
I am trying to be full of joy and good tidings to men (well, and women and children when they aren’t fighting, and yes, Darby and Zoe, I’m talking to YOU), but well, today is a bit of a struggle. I come in early to add more lights, sweep, dust, create, and general prep for tomorrow’s open house (10-6, and 10% off storewide!!! Come on over and buy handmade!!!), and what do I find? A lovely parking ticket on my van. I not only was parked in a residential zone for 20 min. over my alloted 2 hours as posted, but seriously. People will park in front of Glitter for days on end (again, 2 hour posted parking) and do any of them get tickets? no. Towed? no. Do they come at moving time and park their PODS there for entire weekends? yes.
SO to get myself back in the giving, loving spirit, I am going to have one of my little glitter giveaways.
The theme to this one is your best Christmas (or whatever holiday you may celebrate) gift you ever received. I would love to say that I am not the kind of person who judges their Christmas on the gifts received, that it is just the friends and family blah blah blah, but when I received a Cabbage Patch Kid in third grade (must have been…. 1983?) I thought that life could not get any better. I was a huge snoop and had not only found it, but removed it from the box and played with it every day when I thought my mom wasn’t around. Yeah. I’m sure I fooled her!
So, leave me a comment on either your best gift or why I should forgive parking enforcement, and I will randomly pick a winner for a holiday themed gift. I will give ya through the weekend since it’s a busy time o year.
Back to the grindstone for me..
Oh, and here’s a bit more cuteness. A sweet holiday coaster I just listed in the shop

SHUT UP, NAOMI!!!!! As I was reading your post, I was thinking, “My fave gift was my CPK I received in 3rd grade” (also ‘83). How bizarre! My mom DEFINITIVELY told me she was unable to get one for me and even went so far as to pack it in a smaller, more inconspicuous box. She was a bald preemie named Amelia, and I loved her! What did yours look like??
A close second was the year both my grandpas died. My mom had old photographs of them (that I had never seen) printed for my brother and me. As I opened them, “Ice Dance” from Edward Scissorhands was playing on the cd player which is SO SAD, so I sat there and bawled. That was a great gift too. :)

Cassia Dorrie. She had brown pig tails and smelled faintly like baby powder (unless I was just imagining it). I then got Wendall Edmund, and two preemies that I can’t remember the names. I was obsessed!! I even made a scrapbook out of the pics in the Sears wish book!!
My mom ended up finding ONE in a tiny little store in a tiny little town by where we lived when I was small.
I keep trying to convince the girls that they love them but neither of them are thrilled about dolls at all. They even have mine to play with!

Best gift ever…I have 2…unfortunatley I can’t remember anything from my childhood so I have to go with more recent years. A full size Legolas the Elf Cardboard Standee for my movie room. I am a movie geek of phenom proportion. I think I actually shrieked upon opening (very attractive for an almost 40 year old). The other gift (also movie related) was a whirlypop popcorn maker. The kind that sits on the stove with the hand crank. It rules.
Sorry about the ticket but good for you for taking the high road to pass the cheer.

best present, hmmmm…..
i’d have to say it was the ipod aaron got me that is engraved on the back. it says “For Emily: Music sounds better with you.” Isn’t that soooooo romantic??? I think so.
It was either that or the time Naomi got Jerome boxers for X-mas, wrapped them up and accidentally gave them to me instead. And I now I wear boxers!

I even have the horrible ten year old picture of me holding the Best Christmas gift ever! Teen Skipper!
I have No idea why I loved or even wanted that doll, she was half the size of Barbie and had a huge puffy pink skirt that could be removed. She was sooo tan her blonde hair looked white! And don\’t let me forget those fabulous poofy bangs we all wore back then in the 80s and 90s so Hip!
