Today was the E. Johnson business association meeting. Ruth, who owns Studio Bloom sets these up so all the businesses can trade info and brainstorm. The main goal of all our businesses is to promote shopping locally and supporting independent businesses.

We started The Glitter Workshop to not only give me an outlet to sell my work, but to open a venue for local artists to sell their ways, meet each other, and generally have fun doing it. Although we have expanded to a point where we have artists from all over the U.S. and Canada, we have kept it to independent artists who take great pride in what they do.

I am honored to give recognition to all these great people and all the friends I have made in doing this.

I can not stress enough how important it is to support the businesses in your neighborhood. Not so long ago we depended on the the local grocer for food for our family, and the small local clothing store for our clothes. In this time of Gap and huge national chain stores, it is more important than ever to remember that we do this because of our passion and our goal to bring the cottage industry back to life.

One other note, if you can not shop locally, please try to support independent business across our nation. There are many great websites to promote independent artists. Bust magazine has a great feature called ‘girl wide web’, which is all independent women’s businesses, and Etsy which allows artists to post their products on.

We wish all of our glitter friends the best for the holiday season and the new year. We hope to see many of you at our open house on Friday. It is from 4-10, or whenever we run out of snacks and holiday cheer (mine is running low, so help me out!!!)
